Volkswagen Phaeton could return to the U.S.

Volkswagen's US vice president of product marketing has revealed some new details about the company's future product lineup..

Speaking with Automotive News, Rainer Michel said there is room for an entry-level crossover to slot below the Tiguan. It would likely be built in the United States and tailored to American consumers. The executive also wants a large crossover with three rows of seats.

Volkswagen is also considering bringing the Phaeton back to the United States. Michel revealed it's "certainly under discussion" but won't happen until the brand is properly positioned.

In the short term, we can expect Volkswagen to offer diesel engines on additional models like the Tiguan.
